Dr.M. Manikandan is an Indian politician and a member of the AIADMK from the state of Tamilnadu. Manikandan is a first-term member of the 15thTamilnadu Legislative Assembly. He was elected from Ramanathapuram constituency of Ramanathapuram District. In June 2016 Manikandan was inducted into the Jayalalitha led government of Tamilnadu as a state minister with Independent Charge. Manikandan holds the Information Technology Department portfolio in the Government of Tamilnadu. At age 39, Manikandan is the second youngest minister to be sworn into the Tamilnadu Cabinet.
Early life and education
Manikandan was born to Shri S. Murugesan in Ramanthapuram in Tamil Nadu. He received his bachelor's degree in Medicine from the Annamalai University. He then obtained Masters in Surgery (MS) from SRIRAMACHANDRA MEDICAL COLLEGE, Tamilnadu, India. He also has accomplished fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (FIAGES)
Political life
Dr. Manikandan is from the AIADMK, Manikandan represents Ramanathapuram Assembly Constituency of Ramanathapuram district, Tamilnadu. A Doctor by Profession, Manikandan entered into public service as Deputy Secretary of Medical Wing of the AIADMK.
As a party loyalist and popular among the district people, he was picked by Jayalalitha to fight the Ramanathapuram Assembly elections in 2016 in which he won by 33222 votes over the then Incumbent MLA. His Educational and professional background coupled by performance in the party caused him to be picked by Jayalalitha to hold a very crucial portfolio of Information Technology.
Since his election as Member Legislative Assembly and minister of Information Technology for the government of Tamilnadu, he has been considered as one of the most progressive politicians of the Tamilnadu region.
Manikandan is playing a very significant role in ensuring the enablement of Information Technology in various government projects. Manikandan’ s relentless efforts in encouraging IT industry in Tamilnadu will pave ways for its development further.
Manikandan is considered a rare breed of second-generation politicians who have come up the ranks of the party right from the bottom of the pyramid. His commitment, conviction and passion for the party is exemplified by the fact that he is considered an absolute worker from the grassroots.
