Mälardalen University (Swedish: Mälardalens högskola), or MDH, is a university college (högskola) located in Västerås and Eskilstuna, Sweden.[2] It has 15,000 students and around 900 employees, of which 87 are professors, 479 teachers, and 218 doctoral students. [3] Mälardalen University is the world's first environmentally certified school according to the international standard ISO 14001.

MDH vs Connie Askenbäck Dickinson

The university was sued in 2016 by US student Connie Askenbäck, because the education in mathematics she received at the institution when she studied there 2011-13 did not live up to academic standards on 4 out of 5 criteria set by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (Swedish: Universitetskanslerämbetet, UKÄ) and consequently she demanded back her tuition fees which non-EU students pay in Sweden. The university contested her claim but the district court ruled in her favour.[4] The university lost again at the courts of appeal[5] but took the case up to the highest legal instance, the Supreme Court of Sweden, which also ruled in favour of the student after two years of litigation. The supreme court judgment will service as a guideline for future similar court cases.[6]
