Lycée français international de Kyoto (京都国際フランス学園, Kyōto Kokusai Furansu Gakuen) is a French international school in Shimogyô-ku, Kyoto, Japan.[1] It serves levels maternelle (preschool) through lycée (senior high school).[2]

As of 2003 the school, mainly catering to mixed French-Japanese families, had 35 students.[3]

The Kyoto International French High School is an institution recognized by the Ministry of National Education.

In 2017, the LFK becomes LFIK, Kyoto International French High School, with 145 students.

History

School building (old)

It was formerly École française du Kansai (EFK; 関西フランス学院 Kansai Furansu Gakuin),[4] and later Lycée Français de Kyoto ("French High School of Kyoto", LFK; リセ・フランセ・ド・京都 Rise Furanse do Kyōto).[5] It was founded in 1997,[6] and formerly resided in the former Taiken Elementary School in Kamigyo-ku.[7]

There was previously a French school or educational facility in Kobe.[8]

In 2003 Phillipe Chatignoux, the consul-general of France, stated that even then French companies had difficulty establishing themselves in the Kansai region since the EFK at the time was not sufficient in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).[3]
