Eritrea is a single-party state. This means that only one political movement, the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (ህዝባዊ ግንባር ንደሞክራስን ፍትሕን
الجبهة الشعبية للديمقراطية والعدالة) is legally allowed to hold effective power. Elections only occur to elect representatives for the country's regional assemblies and other posts within the country's districts. There are no national elections in Eritrea

Other parties

Only the People's Front for Democracy and Justice is legal to operate in Eritrea, other parties exist outside Eritrea or illegally operate inside Eritrea :

• Eritrean People's Democratic Front (EPP) social-democratic party led by Tewelde Ghebreselassie
• Eritrean National Salvation Front - Hidri (ENSF) social-democratic party led by Tuamzghi Teame
