Link Crew
Lets take a step back into time to 26 years ago- 1992 to be exact. Back in 1992, Carolyn Hill and Mary Beth Campbell became the founders to a program called Link Crew. Now your probably asking yourself- what is Link Crew? Well Link Crew is a Student Leadership Program. Its focused on selected individuals from the Junior and Senior class to become leaders and mentors to the freshman class.
Through the struggles and success of this program: Link Crew has been established in 3,705 schools in 47 states in the United States. In the U.S. alone, we have 11,424 trained educators. Other countries; such as Canada, have 1,712 trained Canadians, but only established in seven schools. Link Crew has been beneficial for 1.8 million students and is continuous growing in numerous amount of ways.
The heart and soul, who help create our Link Crew program are the Link Crew Leaders (Junior and Senior Students). Our Link Leaders are students who want to make a difference in someones life and/or school. Taking on the role of being a Link Leader is a big responsibility (tutoring, providing guidance, being a support system,etc.). Being a Leader requires patience and a positive mind in all/ many situations.
The training process of the program is team building activities, cooperative skill development, discussion skill, situation scenario, etc. After Link Leaders have received two-four day training; leaders then get assigned six-seven freshmen. The experience exposes students to a variety of positive experience.
Teaches students that by working together they can be successful and enjoy one another. Helps increase academics success through the support of the peers. Also, welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout their first year of high school.
Link Leaders kick off the school year by helping at Freshmen Orientation. This allows Link Leader to get the freshman class excited and develop relationship/strategies that will contribute to their high school success. After orientation, Link Crew continues, providing a variety of both Academics and Social follow up activities throughout the year. The overall object of Link Crew is to provide schools with structures in which students make real connections with each other. Through this program, Students learn that people at school care about them and their success.
