The green labeo or mountain labeo (Labeo fisheri) is a species of freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is found only in Sri Lanka, where it occurs in some of the streams in the basin of the Mahaweli River. Its habitat is clear, rocky, fast flowing mountain streams which are shaded by trees. It feeds on algae on the substrate and is a fast swimming species.[2] It is threatened by the damming of streams for hydro-electric and irrigation schemes, as well as the deforestation of the rainforests it is found in, and the resulting siltation and increased turbidity of the streams. It may already be extinct.[1]
