L'eredità (The inheritance) is an Italian Rai 1 game show. It premiered on July 29, 2002. From July 29, 2002 to June 10, 2006, it was hosted by Italian presenter Amadeus. He was succeeded by Carlo Conti who hosted the show until April 14, 2014, when he was replaced by Fabrizio Frizzi. Frizzi hosted until October 23, 2017, when he became ill during the taping of the next show and was taken to the hospital. Carlo Conti substituted for Frizzi from October 30, 2017 to December 15, 2017, and he hosted the special episode in tandem with Fabrizio Frizzi when the latter returned hosting the quiz. On December 16, 2017 Fabrizio Frizzi resumed hosting the show by himself until March 25, 2018. The next day, Frizzi died of a brain hemorrhage.[1] Following a hiatus due to Frizzi's untimely death, the game returns from April 3, 2018 until the end of the season with the host Carlo Conti. From September 24, 2018, the new presenter of the game show is Flavio Insinna.

The show reached 1,000 episodes on November 19, 2010 and with more of 3,000 episodes, it is the longest-running game show on Italian television. A video game based on the series was developed by Milestone s.r.l and released for the PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows in 2003.

Game rules

Each episode features seven contestants who compete to win a jackpot by the final of seven rounds, which is called "La ghigliottina" (The Guillotine).

1st round: "Il Domino Musicale" (The Music Domino)

This is introductory round was introduced in the 2016-2017 season. In this game, every contestant has to match one word take to the lyrics of a song on five options at the tune proposed. If the player has done the correct answer, the game pass at other contestant and the word will substitute to the other. The contestant that'll do two mistakes will be to elimination risk and have to point the finger to other player.

The two players for save us, have to play at the Double Climb where they have to answer correctly a number of definitions in 60 seconds. In every definition, the player will see every two seconds a letter of the answer and if he answers correctly the game pass to opponent. At the end of the game, will be eliminated the player who has finished the first the 60 seconds, moreover, the winner take the inheritance of the opponent.

2nd round: "L'una o l'altra" (One or the Other)

In this round, every contestant has to answer a question with two options. If the player answer correctly, the game passes to another player and at the end of the game the contestant with two mistakes will be at risk of elimination and have to point the finger at another player and play the Double Climb.

3rd round: "I Fantastici Quattro" (The Fantastic Four)

In "The Fantastic Four", the host shows four years to the five contestants (from 1920 to 2016), and they have to match an event to the year. After two mistakes, there is an elimination round of the Double Climb.

4th round: "Di chi/cosa stiamo parlando?" (Who/What are we talking about?)

This round introduced in the 2016-2017 season, replaced "La Scossa" (The Shock), and sees protagonists four contestants. Eeach player is asked an open answer question in which every answer is linked to a central theme topic. If the contestant answers correctly, he or she is then allowed to guess the central topic, but if the contestant guesses wrong, the game passes to another contestant, until all eight questions are answered, and the central theme is revealed. The two contestants that guess the central topic correctly qualify for the next game, and the other two has to play at the Double Climb to continue the game.

5th round: "Il Triello" (The "Triello")

In this game, the three contestants have to answer eight questions, choosing the topic. Every question has a prize between €10,000 and €40,000. The player has ten seconds to answer a question with four options. If he/she misses or answers out of time, the game passes to another contestant who, if he/she answers correctly, adds the prize of that question to his/her prize. At the end of the game, the two contestants with the highest prizes go to the game of the Penalties. In case of a tie between the two opponents, they have to play at the Double Climb in 30 seconds rather than the other rounds.

6th round:"I calci di rigore" (The Penalties)

This round introduced in 2016-2017 sees the two finalists answering five open answer questions. Every correct answer is worth a point, and the winner is the one who accumulates the highest point score. In case of a tie, the game is continued until one of the two players answers the first question correctly. The finalist goes to the "Guillotine", with the prize given by the sum of the two final prizes of both players.

Final game: "La Ghigliottina" (The Guillotine)

The final round, introduced in the 2005-2006 season, was the idea of Stefano Santucci, the creator of the show. It consists of five pairs of words. The finalist must select one of the two words. If the contestant answers wrong, the host halves the prize money. At the end, the finalist writes a word which, in a similar fashion to the "Di chi/cosa stiamo parlando?" round, bears a thematic connection to theother five words. If the word is correct, he wins the game. A contestant who answers incorrectly can retry the following day.
