She is the 2017 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival All-Around Champion and the 2018 European Junior bronze medalist. She is also a current member of the Russian National Team.

Early life

Klimenko was born in Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia in 2003. She currently trains at Gazprom Transgaz Surgut and represents the Ural district.[1]

Gymnastics career

Junior

2016

In April Klimenko competed at the Russian National Championships as an espoir where she won gold in the all-around, on the uneven bars, and on balance beam. She also placed third on floor exercise and sixth on vault and won silver in the with the Ural district.[2]

2017

Klimenko competed at the WOGA Classic in early 2017. She placed third in the all-around behind fellow Russian Angelina Simakova and American Audrey Davis.[3] She later competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy where she placed third in the team final, twelfth in the All-Around, seventh on uneven bars, fourth on balance beam, and fifth on floor exercise.[4] At the Russian National Championships Klimenko placed first in the junior All-Around, on uneven bars, and on balance beam. She also placed third on floor and fifth on vault.[5] In the summer Klimenko competed at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival where she won gold in the All-Around, on balance beam, and on floor exercise and won silver on uneven bars.[6]

2018

Klimenko competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy in April. Russia placed second in the team competition and individually Klimenko placed first on uneven bars.[7] Klimenko competed at the 2018 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships where Russia won team silver. Individually Klimenko won uneven bars gold and bronze in the all-around.[8][9] She was later selected to represent Russia at the 2018 Youth Olympics taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[10][11] However she did not perform at her best at the Youth Olympics, falling twice in qualifications, on vault and bars, although her high difficulty on the latter still allowed her to advance to the uneven bars final. In the all-around final she suffered more problems, getting very poor block on an attempted Yurchenko full, causing her to tuck her knees for a low execution score, a fall off of the uneven bars and a fall on balance beam. A good floor performance allowed her to finish 5th, although she fell short of the Russian performances of the previous two Youth Olympics, where the all-around final was won by Russian athletes (Viktoria Komova in 2010 and Seda Tutkhalyan in 2014). In the first day of event finals she competed on the uneven bars, where unlike the first 2 days of competition, she managed to stay on the apparatus, taking the gold medal, as her Russian teammates did in the previous youth olympics.
