Kovi. Manisekaran

Kovi.Manisekaran (Tamil: கோவி. மணிசேகரன்) is a Tamil scholar, film director, actor from Tamil Nadu, India. Manisekaran is only Tamil writer who swept all of the literature awards in Tamil Nadu. who also the great musician,"the sangeetha booshanam" first class in first in rank at Annamalai University in 1951.

Biography:

Dr. Kovi.Manisekaran, a pioneer scholar in Tamil literature & grammar is a writer and poet was born on 2 May 1927 at Vellore District of Tamilnadu. The author in his boyhood stage was not provided with an opportunity by his parents for basic studies. It is only author’s inclination towards studies intuited him to gain literary knowledge in later stages. He started studying Tamil with the blessings of Puratchi Kavingnar Bharathidasan at Pondicherry in1939.Back to his native place Vellore, he studied the language in depth from Prof. Karazhaganar in 1945. Then he shifted himself to Chennai , there he could pursue Tamil under the guidance of T.P. Meenakshi sundaram pillai .When he joined to learn Karnatic music in Annamalai University in 1947, he had an opportunity to learn Tamil grammar under Mahavidwan Vellaivarnar. Thus without any academic qualification in Tamil he developed himself as a new vista of Tamil poetry in Tamil prose was born from him.

The author is not only genius in Tamil literature but also well versed in Karnatic music. His music based novel titled Kutraalakkurinji consisting of 36 chapters bearing names of 36 apoorva ragas.  The author has a privilege of writing in all reputed Tamil magazines. In his numerous novels, short stories, research books, plays and poetries, he has touched almost all parts of Indian history. Compare to other writers and poets the author has a unique dancing language in prose and of course he had proved himself to be a apex poet by writing Kove Ramayana, composed of three volumes - 1.Ayothiya kandam 2.Uthama kandam 3.Maguda kandam consisting of 4000 poems. The highlight of Kove Ramayana is after Kamba Ramayana of more than 1000 years agoana of more than 1000 y the author has written Kovi Ramayana in classical grammar by this, he proved himself to be genius in Tamil grammar and a core poet.

He has written more than 50 social novels and 110 historical novels, 400 social short stories with 600 historical short stories and nearly 6 poetry collections. His monumental social novel Yagasalai which is based on Upanishads brought him a conferred doctorate.

None other author in Tamil literature has written such numerous short stories and novels as Dr. Kove Manisekaran has written. He has a credit of being recipient of numerous academic awards. Now in his age of 89 years of lively hood with his 90 years of Tamil literary contribution, the author has written an epic titled Kadavul Kappiym (The Epic of Almighty).

Eleven research students have received Ph.d. Among the Eleven students, two of them has under gone research on his style of language .Nineteen of them have received M.Phil.degree in researching author’s novel.

Thus the author has a near achievement of 1000 short stories (historical & social), 142 novels  (Historical & social), 8 plays (historical & social) 11 poetry collection including his autobiography.
