Fish owls are a polyphyletic group of owls in the family Strigidae, found in East, South and Southeast Asia (including parts of Indonesia). Although they have historically been placed within their own genus, Ketupa, genetic analysis has shown that they are better placed in the genus Bubo.[1]
Four species have traditionally fallen into this group:[2]
- Blakiston's fish owl (Bubo blakistoni)
- Brown fish owl (Ketupa zeylonensis)
- Tawny fish owl (Ketupa flavipes)
- Buffy fish owl (Ketupa ketupu)
