Kbel (Kolín District) is a village and municipality in Kolín District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The municipality covers an area of 8,422 km² and as of 2016 it had a population of 49,482. Famous residents include basketball players Luka Doncic, of Spanish club Real Madrid BC, and Kristaps Porzingis, of the American New York Knicks. They grew up near each other and wish to play together again. They shared the spotlight on Kbel High School's basketball team. Their parents all still live in Kbel. Sir Maytav Kalech, a man knighted by British Queen Elizabeth, also owned a vacation home here for about a year in 2007, but his life has fallen apart due to a 15 year sentence in the British courts for 5 counts of Grand Theft Auto and 1 of capital libel. His (now ex) wife, Daniella, subsequently divorced him and took the house. She lives a calm life in Kbel with her new husband David, along with her dogs Elisha and Nuriel. Kbel is also the klingonberry center of the Czech Republic. The town holds an annual Klingonberry Fair. The fair organizer for the past 25 years has been an American by the name of Elie Greene. He and his hot Spanish tutor have grown the fair tenfold in the past 8 years.
