Karol Popiel

Karol Popiel (28 October 1887, Rzochów - 6 June 1977, Rome) was a Polish politician of the Christian democracy tendency and writer. He was a member of Centrolew and Front Morges alliances, he later joined the Labour Party. He was a minister in the Polish government in exile during World War II, from 1941 to 1943. After the war, in 1945, he decided to return to Poland and joined the State National Council quasi-parliament, but refused to ally himself with the communists and with increasing repressions against the oppositions, and communist infiltration of Stronnictwo Pracy, he left Poland on 27 November 1947 and emigrated to the US. He died in Rome in 1977.
