Jonathan Lewis (born June 4, 1997) is an American professional soccer player who plays for Louisville City FC, on loan from New York City FC, as a winger and forward.
Early and personal life
Lewis was born in Plantation, Florida,[2] and attended South Plantation High School.[1]
His mother is from London.[3] He is also of Jamaican descent.[1]
Club career
After playing in the United States with the Chicago Fire academy, Plantation FC and Kendall SC,[1][4] and in England with the RIASA Academy, Lewis signed a two-year professional contract with Bradford City in July 2015.[5] He had also trained with a number of other English clubs.[3]
He signed on loan for Farsley Celtic in September 2015,[6] making his debut for them the next day.[7]
After two appearances for Farsley Celtic, one in the league and one in the FA Trophy,[8] Lewis left Bradford City in October 2015 by mutual consent, citing homesickness.[9][10]
Upon returning to the United States, he played college soccer with the Akron Zips,[1] winning the 2016 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year award.[11]
In January 2017 he was drafted by New York City.[12] Lewis made his professional debut on March 18, 2017, appearing as a 79th-minute substitute in a 1–1 draw with Montreal Impact.[13]
In September 2018 he moved on loan to Louisville City FC.[14]
International career
He is a member of the United States under-20 national team,[15] and has been invited to a training camp run by the Jamaican senior team.[11]
Lewis won the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship with United States U20,[16] scoring a goal and assisting another in a 4-1 group stage win against Saint Kitts and Nevis U20.[17]
Playing style
He has been compared to Nahki Wells, who also signed for Bradford City after playing with RIASA.[3]
