John Dawson is a British television journalist, former news anchor at Bloomberg TV in Europe and Asia, conference moderator and Public Relations executive. While at Bloomberg, he reported from the World Economic Forum in Davos, the OPEC gatherings and the technology-driven 3GSM and CeBIT conferences in Cannes, Barcelona and Hannover. In May 2015, Dawson resigned after 20 years at Bloomberg to join Hong Kong-based Reputation and Crisis Management consultancy Artemis Associates.

Early life and education

Dawson was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad to British parents. He moved to the U.K. aged eight and graduated from Rugby School, Warwickshire, England. He then went to Royal Holloway College, University of London to read English & Classics and graduated in 1994 with a BA (Hons) 2:1 (Upper Second). At University, he was a regular contributor to the University newspaper, completed a summer apprenticeship at The Chester Chronicle (owned by Thomson Newspapers), and founded The University of London Racquets Club.

Journalism career

Bloomberg News (1995–1997)

Dawson joined Bloomberg News as a graduate intern in 1995. After the three-month internship, he joined the European Markets team as a reporter and feature writer, where his work was picked up in The Financial Times, the New York Times, Business Week and International Herald Tribune. During this time, Bloomberg TV's European operations launched in London under Katherine Oliver, later the NYC Film Commissioner. Dawson moved to television in 1997 as a writer, reporter and TV interviewer.

Bloomberg TV (1997–2015)

Self-taught as an on-air presenter, Dawson established himself as the lead interviewer and gained a reputation for breaking news, global exclusives and interviewing heads of state, Nobel Laureates and world leaders in industry and finance. Over the course of the next 18 years, Dawson interviewed over 6,000 leading influencers from industry, politics, finance and sport. Past interviewees included Alibaba's Jack Ma, Sir Richard Branson, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, US President Bill Clinton, Hong Kong Chief Executives Carrie Lam and C.Y. Leung, South African President F.W. de Klerk, IMF's Christine Lagarde, Philippine President Aquino and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. He is also an in-demand conference moderator/speaker, having chaired numerous panels and reported from global conferences, including the World Economic Forum in Davos and the politically-charged EU, IMF and OPEC meetings.

Dawson’s career has propelled him to the heart of the business community, where he established a strong rapport with Fortune 500 CEOs and developed a very healthy network of contacts across media, business, finance and politics. His exclusive, news-breaking interviews with General Electric’s Jack Welch and BP’s Lord Browne won him Bloomberg’s sole nominations for the U.K. Business Journalist of the Year award.

Artemis Associates (2015–Present) In April 2015, Dawson resigned after 20 years with Bloomberg and crossed industries to accept a role as Partner/Director and Global Media Counsel at Hong Kong-based reputation and crisis management company Artemis Associates.

Personal life

Dawson resides in Hong Kong and has one daughter.
