University of Jiroft (دانشگاه جیرفت) is a public, coeducational research university in Jiroft, Iran. It is 8 km from the city center and occupies nearly 210 hectares of prime land.

History

The University of Jiroft was started as a Technical Institute of Agriculture in 1989, under the supervision of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman.

In 1997 it was developed to the Faculty of Agriculture and, later on, it was expanded as the Faculty Complex of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

In line with the attention of the government to higher education and scientific research around the country, and according to the all-round development of the southern province of Kerman as well as prospect of the use of high capacity and potential of the Jiroft city, on 22 February 2009 the Faculty Complex developed to the University of Jiroft.

The academic activity independently began with two faculties: Agriculture and Natural Resources. However, it has been fundamentally expanded and became a well known university in the south of country.

Academics

University of Jiroft offers a verity of Bachelor degrees in a wide spectrum of disciplines, as well as seven Master’s degree programs. Its research laboratories are well equipped and a major program for modernizing laboratories is underway. In the near future, the university will commit to offer doctoral program in the area of agriculture science.
