Jeremy "D" Williams is the mayor of Orangeville, Ontario, in Canada. He was elected mayor in the municipal elections of 2014, after serving as town councillor from 2010 to 2014.[2]
Prior to being Mayor he was founder of Canada's first all age, all ability Rattler’s soccer program for special needs players in 2007 [3] He founded the first Sports Council for Dufferin County in 2010.[4] In 2014 he was elected Orangeville Mayor.[2] His first term as councillor saw him win the only seat as a non-incumbent against 10 rivals for the position.[5]
Major projects undertaken during his term included a $28 million sewage treatment plant upgrade.[6] A decades-long plan to develop a major sports park in the centre of town was completed [7] He was instrumental in bringing a transit system to Orangeville, utilizing full-size city-style buses and a planned bus station.[8]
A controversy early in his term as mayor, regarding the replacement of a weather-worn sign forbidding tobogganing on a toboggan hill, led to national coverage of the issue of several liability[9][10]
Williams was the first mayor to endorse Doug Ford Jr. for premier of Ontario, doing so on the eve of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario leadership election, 2018.[11]
Life
Born in Toronto to Moira and Stewart Williams, the family moved to Adjala Township, near Orangeville, in the 1970s. Williams's father Stewart, a long time businessman, was elected for several terms to Adjala Council with Jeremy Williams running his father's campaigns.[12]
