James S. Donnelly Jr.

James S. Donnelly Jr. (born 1943) is a retired emeritus professor of history at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he specialized in nineteenth-century Irish history. He was a leading figure in the subfield of Irish studies. Donnelly is a former president of the American Conference for Irish Studies, and a current co-editor of the journal Éire-Ireland. He is the author of:

• The Land and the People of Nineteenth-Century Cork: The Rural Economy and Land Question. 1975 (which was awarded the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize of the American Historical Association)
• Landlord and Tenant in Nineteenth-Century Ireland. (1973).
