I Had Sex With E.T. is the popular name given to Barnes & Barnes' untitled first EP. It was released in 1982 on their own Lumania Records label (its first non-single release), and has not yet been re-released in its entirety.
Shortly after its release, Barnes & Barnes were threatened with legal action from Universal Studios over unlicensed use of the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial name. As a result, "Art and Artie Barnes" (Robert Haimer and Bill Mumy) immediately took the record out of release, and destroyed all unsold stock. Exactly 200 copies were pressed and just 73 were sold before the record was removed from sale; as a result, the record is now a collector's item, fetching up to $179. The EP is no longer considered a canonical Barnes & Barnes release, likely because of the low amount of copies sold as a result of Universal's complaint. The record did manage to get the attention of Los Angeles new-wave station KROQ, who placed it on their list of the "Top 106.7 Songs of 1982" at the very bottom (number "106.7").
Only one of its four tracks has since been reissued ("If You Hurt No One", on Yeah: The Essential Barnes & Barnes and on Kodovoner), though "So Bold" was re-recorded in 1983 for inclusion on Kodovoner, and again in 1988 for an untitled album rejected by Rhino Records.
The EP's cover is a black-and-white line drawing by Joan Farber, though each cover was individually colored by Barnes & Barnes themselves.
