I've Married A Bachelor is an Australian television sitcom which first screened on the ABC in 1968.

Premise

I've Married A Bachelor follows the problems faced by newlyweds Peter and Molly Prentice. Peter is a typical Australian male who finds it difficult to shake off his bachelor lifestyle. His best friend Mervyn MacGregor is a loyal friend but is somewhat dim-witted and a constant source of disaster to the Prentice household. Molly is somewhat tolerant of her husband's ways but devises plans to change the situation. She often seeks the wisdom of her mother Mrs. Malley, who provides help and advice in this constant struggle. [1]

Cast

  • Peter Whitford as Peter Prentice
  • June Thody as Molly Prentice
  • Donald McDonald as Mervyn MacGregor
  • Aileen Britton as Mrs. Malley
  • Don Philps as Mr. Malley

Production

The series was sold overseas to several countries including England, Scotland, New Zealand and Sweden. There were plans for more episodes, so when the ABC announced that a third series would not proceed it was considered an unusual move considering its popularity and the foreign sales it had achieved, particularly for a black and white program.

Awards

I've Married A Bachelor won the Logie Award for Best Comedy at the Logie Awards of 1968.
