Higashi, Shibuya

Higashi () is a residential district of the Shibuya ward in Tokyo surrounded by the prime residential areas of Hiroo, Ebisu, Daikanyama and Aoyama.

Notable buildings

  • Although primarily a residential and embassy district, Higashi houses the famed Liquid room venue [1] - launch pad for many serious Japanese and Western bands, DJs, and musicians into the Japan music scene.
  • Prince Hitachi and Princess Hitachi have their official residence in a palace in large gardens off Komazawadori in Higashi.[2]

Universities

The main campus of the Kokugakuin University is in Higashi. All law and Shinto studies students, as well as 3rd and 4th year literature and economics students populate the Shibuya campus. At the end of January, 2006, it was decided that the name of the main building, which was recently developed, would be Wakagi Tower (若木タワー, Wakagi Tawā).
