Hannover Re (in German Hannover Rück) SE, with a gross premium of around 17.8 billion, is a European and third-largest reinsurance company in the world.[2] Its headquarters is in Hannover, Germany.

The company was founded in 1966 under the name Aktiengesellschaft für Transport- und Rückversicherung (ATR).

Hannover Re transacts all lines of property & casualty and life & health reinsurance and has a network of subsidiaries, branches and representative offices on all five continents with a total staff of roughly 2,900. The Group's German business is written by the subsidiary E+S Rück.

The rating agencies most relevant to the insurance industry have awarded Hannover Re very strong insurer financial strength ratings (Standard & Poor's AA- "Very Strong" and A.M. Best A+ "Superior").

History

In August 2018, it was announced that Chief Executive Officer Ulrich Wallin would retire after 10 years in the role on May 8, 2019. He will be succeeded by Jean-Jacques Henchoz, who will become a member of the company's executive board on April 1, 2019.[3]
