Hanafi Mosque of Bourguiba

The hanafi mosque of Bourguiba (Arabic: جامع بورقيبة) is a Tunisian mosque located in Monastir (Independence Street) and dedicated to the first president of Tunisia, Habib Bourguiba.

Presentation

Built in 1963 by Taieb Bouzguenda, this mosque is designed in a traditional architecture based on that of the Hammouda Pacha Mosque of Tunis.

The prayer hall can accommodate up to 1,000 people. The mihrab, located in a semi-dome, is covered with a half arch decorated with a golden mosaic. As for the columns themselves, the overcoming charts overcome and the bows are made of pink marble.
