Halloween Havoc (1992) was the fourth Halloween Havoc professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Championship Wrestling (WCW). It took place on October 25, 1992 from the Philadelphia Civic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As of 2014 the event is available on the WWE Network.[1]

Storylines

The event featured professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Professional wrestlers portray villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.[2]

Event

Prior to the start of the pay-per-view, there was one dark match, which saw Erik Watts and Van Hammer defeated The Vegas Connection (Vinnie Vegas and Diamond Dallas Page).

During the first pay-per-view match Tom Zenk, Johnny Gunn and Shane Douglas defeated Arn Anderson, Michael Hayes and Bobby Eaton. Zenk hit the superkick on Hayes followed by Gunn hitting him with the Thesz Press, to pick up the victory via pinfall.

In the following match, Ricky Steamboat went for a sunset flip, however Brian Pillman was able to reverse it and attempted to roll up Steamboat for the cover. Steamboat was able to reverse this and cover Pillman to pick up the victory.

For the next match, Vader was defending the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship for Rick Rude, who complained about having to wrestle twice. This was also a No Disqualification Match and Madusa was barred from ringside. Rick Rude and Harley Race were also banned from ringside by order of head referee Ole Anderson. Ultimately Koloff missed a Russian Sickle which enabled Vader to hit a powerbomb and pick up the victory.

Both the NWA and WCW World Tag Team Championships were defended in the next match. The match was originally scheduled to be "Dr. Death" Steve Williams and Terry Gordy vs. The Steiner Brothers, but was changed after Rick Steiner suffered a torn chest muscle during a Japanese tour, and Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes won the titles from Williams and Gordy on the October 3 edition of WCW Saturday Night, making Williams and Gordy challenge Windham and Rhodes to a rematch for the titles.[3] Steve Austin was then put in for Gordy, who no-showed the event.[4] Williams and Austin originally thought they won the match after Austin pinned Windham, however Windham was not the legal man in the match and the original referee Randy Anderson overturned the decision of referee Nick Patrick. The match went on to end at the 30 minute mark, at a time limit draw.

During the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Rick Rude challenged Masahiro Chono. Both competitors were able to chose their own guest referee for the match. Rude chose Harley Race, and Chono chose Kensuke Sasaki. Prior to the match, Ole Anderson flipped a coin which redermined that Race would be inside the ring while Sasaki would be outside. Chono was disqualified by Race for throwing Rude over the top rope, enabling him to retain the title despite losing the match.

During the second to last match, for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Ron Simmons retained his title against The Barbarian, when he successfully avoided a boot to the face and powerslammed The Barbarian to record the pinfall victory.

The main event was a "Spin the Wheel, Make a Deal" match with the match type determined by spinning wheel. Sting pinned Jake Roberts after hitting him with the coal miner's glove, which caused a snake Roberts was holding to turn on him and bite him in the face.
