Guillermo Moreno Garcia

Guillermo Antonio Moreno García is a Dominican lawyer and politician.[1]

Family

Guillermo Moreno is the son of Dominican poet Juan Isidro Moreno Espinal, with his wife Ana Mercedes García Fernández, a teacher;[2] being the first child among seven siblings. He is the grandson of poet Domingo Moreno Jimenes. Moreno is also descended from Manuel Jimenes, Juan Isidro Jimenes, and María Josefa Pérez de la Paz, the formers were Dominican presidents and the latter had a role in the Trinitarian movement.

Moreno married Aura Celeste Fernández and begat two children, both males.

Law and political career

Moreno served as the District Attorney for the Distrito Nacional from 1996 to 1997, during Leonel Fernández's first term as president. In the 2008 elections, Moreno was the presidential candidate for the leftist Movement for Independence, Unity and Change,[3] receiving 0.44% of the vote. In 2009, Moreno broke away from his prior party and created his own left-wing party called Alianza Pais. Moreno participated as presidential canditate for Country Alliance (Spanish: Alianza País, ALPAÍS) in the 2012 election, receiving 1.37% of the vote. His party has three stated priorities: increasing Dominican economic productivity; ensuring access to basic needs such as water, education, and healthcare; and strengthening democracy and transparency.
