Guardians of the 'Hood is an arcade game released by Atari Games in 1992. It is a 2.5D side-scrolling fighting game which features nice digitized sprites similar to Pit-Fighter and sprite scaling effects that gives a nice feel of depth. The game was originally sold in both dedicated cabinets and conversion kits and it allows a maximum of three simultaneous players.

Taking on the role of either Conner, Chief, Javier or Tanya, you must advance through four areas of the city (slums, subway, chinatown and amusement park) to defeat gangs such as "The Dreads", "The Shavers" and "The Dragons". After defeating a gang leader, he will join your team and help you out on the streets. After cleaning up an area, you go back to the Gym to have a head-to-head match against one of your friends. After winning 2 of 3 rounds, you proceed to the next area. And at the last stage, you will fight the Big Boss.

Another feature is the ability to use a power move called "Magic" similar to those seen in the Street Fighter series, where you throw a projectile at the enemy. To do this move, you have to collect stars (you get 1 star every 2000 points) and each star represents one Magic. To use it, you have to quickly move your joystick forward-backward-forward and push any of the punch buttons (or both of them).

The game also features a weapon system, where you can grab a variety of objects along the way and throw or use them on the bad guys. The objects you will find are trash cans, parking meters, traffic signs, car bumper covers, hydrant, wooden sticks, newspaper machines, crates, bar stools and tables. You can also pick up real people(!) such as bums, photographers and weird guys flashing in the subway station and throw them as a weapon!! But do not attempt to pick up or hit some other people (a prostitute, an old lady walking with a small kid or a lady cleaning up the sidewalk) otherwise they will hit you pretty hard.
