Grooving in Green

Grooving in Green are a gothic rock/post-punk/darkwave band from England. Formed in 2008, the line-up consists of General Megatron Bison, Pete Finnemore, Switchblade Switch and Simon Rippin.

Biography

Grooving in Green formed in 2008 when guitarist Pete Finnemore invited Simon Manning to start writing music together with him for the first time in over 14 years. As a nod to the bands origins and inspirations they once again took their name from a song by The March Violets. Later that year Tron joined on vocals completing the lineup.

In early 2009, the band recorded and released their debut EP Ascent which was described as "obvious quality" by Mick Mercer[1] and proved to be a hit on compilations and in clubs. Later that year, the band officially released their second CD, Dirt.

In 2010, the band recorded and released their debut album Post Traumatic Stress, produced by Steve Carey (Eden House/ Adoration/This Burning Effigy) with bassist Tony Pettit (Fields of the Nephilim/NFD/Eden House) contributing on a song and mastering by Andy Jackson (engineer for Pink Floyd). Mick Mercer described it as “a cool collection, with plenty of musically combustible uppity carousing you can’t fail to enjoy”. The album was placed at number 15 of Dominion Magazine's Top 20 albums of 2010 and was placed in several Top 20s of 2010.

In 2011, the band played dates in the UK both to promote the acclaimed debut album and to introduce new material for the second album. In August 2011, the band had the honour of being declared Static Magazine Germany’s ‘band of the month’. In the same month, the band headlined the first night of Norway’s HELLDORADO Festival. The band finished the year by returning to Germany in October to play Area 51 once again with Vendemmian.

In 2012, the band recorded their second album, Stranglehold with Stephen Carey with Andy Jackson once again handling mastering duties. It was released by AF Music with positive reviews across the board: Mick Mercer said “Post Traumatic Stress was an excellent debut album. This is even better.” Billyphobia.com said “Extremely infectious underground music made of energy-giving and harsh sounds that focuses on straightforward forcefulness to groove in goth” and Graveconcernsezine.com said “This record is the cookie-cutter example of a great, and grooving goth rock album.” The album topped the European Alternative Charts (EAC) for two weeks consecutively in 2013.[2] In late 2012, Simon Manning left the group.

In 2013, Joffie Lovett temporarily joined the line up prior to the band going on temporary hiatus for the remainder of the year.

In 2014, bassist Switchblade Switch and drummer Thomas T Cat (The Marionettes) joined the lineup with Joffie Lovett departing.

In 2015, the band released their debut music video for "The Ninth Circle" to promote the EP Rebirth. In 2015, former members Simon Manning and Thomas T Cat both passed away. Later in 2015, the band made their live return at the Sacrosanct festival with Simon Rippin (Red Sun Revival/The Eden House/Fields of the Nephilim/NFD) joining on drums and Stephen Carey providing guest live guitars.

In 2016, the line up solidified to be that of Tron on vocals, Pete on guitars, Switch on bass and Simon Rippin on drums. The band played their first gig at Death Disco in Athens as well as in Club 52 in Belgium. They also performed in Germany's Gothic Castle 3.

In 2017, the band continued to play dates within the UK including an appearance at Whitby to headline the Absinthe Music Festival alongside Utah Saints. The band also made its first trip to Poland to play multiple dates with bands including Theatre of Hate, Jordan Rayne and Dance on Glass. This led to being featured in Custom Magazine custompress.pl[3] and featured on Polish TV Music Kram.[4] Currently, the band is finishing off recording and producing their third album with Simon Rippin tentatively titled A Second Chance... and have been debuting many of these songs live throughout 2017.
