Gurha Slathian is a village and a notified area as homeland of j&k's rajput in Jammu district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Gurha Slathian is the village of Rajputs. It is located 30 km south of Jammu city in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir in India (Asia). It is the only village in Jammu and Kashmir, and one of them in India whose population above 4,629 (according to census, 2011).''' GURHA SLATHIAN THE LAND OF THE ROYAL RAJPUTS WHO HAVE MADE GREAT SACRIFICES IN UPBRINGING THE DOGRA CULTURE OF JAMMU & KASHMIR'''. It is also the only village in the country where people feel proud of having two village officers holding the rank of '''Lieutenant-General''': '''Anup Slathia''' and his brother '''Kuldeep Slathia''', In 1975 the 90% persons have been and are in the Army. Gurha Slathia has more of an urban than rural look. our village have Well-maintained double line roads, Stadium (play-Ground), hospital, schools,and in each and every field (light, water, education, infrastructure, smartness,bravery, adventures, positions, unity etc) our village is on top from another neighbours village. There are 8 wards in Gurha Slathia which may be referred to as "mandi": Grota mandi, Udh mandi, Garh mandi, Sani mandi, Rajgarh mandi, Paddar mandi, Dabbar mandi and Andrarh mandi.
Slathias are Suryavanshi Rajputs belonging to Dogra region. Mainly found in Jammu,Samba and Udhampur. Jamwal Clan has the following sub-clans which came into existence with the brothers of reigning Maharajas. They settled at various places, around Jammu as Rajas after they were allotted Jagirs. HISTORY
Slathia's Raja Hamir Dev ruled Jammu kindom between Bikarmi 1456 and Bikarmi1483.He had two son Ajaib Dev and Hasil Dev. The younger brother HASIL DEV became the Wazir of Raja Ajaib Dev of Jammu kingdom. Raja Ajaib Dev died in Bikram 1514 and Prince Beeram Dev was left behind. Prince Beeram Dev was very young and handsome. Wazir Hasil Dev nurtured Raja Beeram Dev who still was in very early age. Wazir Hasil Dev helped him to run the administration of Jammu kingdom smoothly. Story goes that one day Badshah of Delhi belonging to Lodhi or Sadat dynasty, called Beeram Dev and finding him very handsome offered him to marry his daughter who had fall in love with this very handsome Raja of Jammu at the first sight. Wazir Hasil Dev also accompanied Raja Beeram Dev. The Badshah ordered Raja Beeram Dev to baptize himself to Islam beforemarriage but the Raja refused to change his religion although agreeing to marry Badsha’s daughter. The Badshah became furious at Raja Beeram Dev’srefusal to change the religion and after conferring with the Qazi ordered his killing. Atthis Wazir Hasil Dev cameto Raja Beeram Dev’s rescue and prayed Badshah to hand him(Raja) to him for the said change and marriage to his (Badshah’s) daughter. Sensingthe sensitiveness of the situation Wazir Hasil sent Raja Beeram Dev back to Jammu in the night along with few sepoys. At this Badsah caught hold of Wazir Hasil Dev and ordered tobe killed scrapping his skin alive and he was murdered. Then Badshah sent his forces to capture Raja Beeram Dev who was later also killed. Wazir Hasil Dev had two sons… Data Ram and Owali. The descendants of Data Ram got Jagir in Mangla (Manawar) and sobriquet as MangaliaRajput. The descendants of the younger brother, Owali settled in village GURHA that later named as GURHA SLATHIAN and the descendants sobriquet as Slathia Rajput. Maharaja Gulab Singh later allotted Jagirs in Kashmir to Manglia Rajputs ... ... SLATHIA community was also given Jagris in Kashmir and still few were given Jagir in DadaSeeba
(Kangra).
