History

In the 1950s, Calgarians interested in sailing coalesced around Jack Pierce (Ranger Oil) as the first Commodore of the Glenmore Sailing Club to create access to sailing (education, docks, rental boats, recreation and racing activities). The Club started the Calgary Junior Sailing School in 1964 which grew 600% in eight years, to the point where continued management / operation by the Club wasn’t possible. In 1973 the City bought all the assets of the School and took over the program which today is known as the Glenmore Sailing School. In the early 90s the Club ran a pilot program to see if the disability community wanted to go sailing. This program was developed into a separate organization, Disabled Sailing Association of Alberta, with whom we still partner today.

Founded in 1959.
