Geoffrey Burleson

Geoffrey Burleson is an American classical and jazz pianist.

Biography and career

Burleson studied at the Peabody Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and Stony Brook University, and his teachers include Gilbert Kalish, Leonard Shure, Veronica Jochum, Lillian Freundlich, Tinka Knopf, and Audrey Bart Brown.

He began his solo career with a recital in Merkin Concert Hall in New York City in 2000. He has performed as a soloist with Boston Musica Viva, the Arlington Philharmonic, the New England Philharmonic and the Holland Symfonia. He was principal pianist with the New York Art Ensemble, Boston Musica Viva, and the Impetus trio. He has given premieres of works by Gunther Schuller, Vivian Fine, William Kraft, David Rakowski, Lior Navok, Hayes Biggs, Barbara White, Jeffrey Stadelman, Jason Eckardt, Evan Johnson, and Dave Soldier. He has taught piano at Princeton University and Hunter College.

Burleson has made a number of recordings, including a disc of music by Roy Harris and a set of Vincent Persichetti's complete piano sonatas.

Awards and honors

He has received awards from the International Piano Recording Competition (Silver Medal), the Vienna Modern Masters International Performers' Competition, and was the recipient of a DAAD Grant from the German government to support a residency at the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
