Frontier Central High School is located at 4432 Bayview Road in Hamburg, New York. The name "Frontier" comes from the geographic area the district covers. With more urban townships like Lackawanna and the City of Buffalo to the north and the rural setting of Evans and Eden to the south, Frontier is often called the "outmost frontier" of the city and acts as the gateway to the rural Southtowns. The high school is attended by students in grades 9-12. It is the high school for the Frontier Central School District. The principal is Mr. Daniel Charland, and the assistant principals are Mrs. Courtney Charleson-Smith, Mr. James Helmicki, and Mr. David Smaczniak.

Frontier Central High School is located in the Southtowns of Western New York. The school had an enrollment of 1,882 students ranging from 9-12 grade in the 2016-17 school year. It is the 4th largest school in Western New York according to a 2017 Niche Survey. Their athletic mascot is a Falcon, and their chief athletic rivals are Hamburg High School, and Orchard Park High School.

History

Frontier High School was opened in 1955, replacing the former Blasdell High School.

In 2012, renovations commenced on the science wing, the auditorium, and basement. A new library was added, and the main hallway was renovated. In addition, a new vestibule was constructed next to the new library. All the renovations were completed in 2014.

In 2017, renovations have been added to the back hallway, which is now called the Senior Hallway. New black and blue paint have been added, and every June, the graduating class will leave their hand prints on the walls with paint.

Noted alumni

Frontier's Music Department

Frontier is known for its world class music department. The Spring Musical is often voted at the Kenny awards for best in talent.

In 2017 Ian Hayes won the Kenny for best actor for the role of Prince Eric in Disney's the Little Mermaid.

They currently have 3 bands; Symphonic, Concert, and Wind Ensemble, which requires an audition. Symphonic and Concert bands combine at the end of the year for the Memorial Day parade in Lake View, NY. Every two years the bands alternate between going to Walt Disney World and either Chicago or Boston for trips. The Jazz band performs every year at a special nightclub downtown for a concert. Either the Tralf or Town Ballroom will host them.

Building Architecture

Frontier’s main building is an art-deco style built in 1951. The freshmen wing was added on in 1999 or 2000.

Athletic Turf field

Frontier is fundraising very heavily for a new artificial turf in 2018. They are one of the only few large public schools left to not have one.

Homecoming

As with other schools, Frontier has a school spirit week before homecoming, with themes such as toga day and Hawaiian day. On Thursday of spirit week, a Powder Puff game takes place, featuring the junior and senior girls. Food trucks and music are present, and a large bonfire is started at the end of the night. On Friday, there is a pep rally during school and a varsity football game in the evening.
