Frank O'Mara

Frank O'Mara (born 17 July 1960) is an Irish former runner who competed in the 1500 metres, 3000 metres and 5000 metres. He won the World Indoor 3000 metres title in 1987 and 1991, and competed at three Olympic Games.

Career

Born in Limerick, O'Mara graduated from St Munchin's College in 1977. Twice World Indoor Champion at 3000 metres, he never achieved the same success on the outdoor track.

He ran collegiately for the University of Arkansas where he won the 1500 meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 1983. O'Mara continued to work for three years as an assistant coach for the University of Arkansas Track and Cross Country teams when the program won their first NCAA Triple Crown.

He is the former CEO of AWCC, a subsidiary of Atlantic Tele-Network which was acquired by AT&T in 2013.
