Background

Born in Rock Island, Illinois, Wood received his bachelor's degree from Augustana College and his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University. Wood began working as a physical education teacher and coach at North Scott High School in 1973, and became activities director a year later. After earning his master's degree in education and educational leadership in administration from Western Illinois University, Wood became a principal at Riverdale High School, Port Byron, Illinois, in 1987, and later assistant principal at Rock Island High School. He returned to North Scott High School in 1999, when he was hired as assistant principal; during this time, he also assumed his old duties as activities director.
