Fernando Gabriel Tatís Medina (born January 2, 1999) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder for the San Diego Padres organization.
Career
The Chicago White Sox signed Tatís as an international free agent in 2015.[1] On June 4, 2016, before he had played a minor league game, the White Sox traded him and Erik Johnson to the Padres for James Shields.[2] He spent 2016 with both the AZL Padres and the Tri-City Dust Devils,[3] batting a combined .273 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 55 games. In 2017, he played for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and the San Antonio Missions, posting a combined .278 batting average with 22 home runs, 75 RBIs and 32 stolen bases.[4][5][6]
Tatis entered 2018 as one of the top prospects in the minor leagues.[7] On July 23, 2018, Tatis Jr. underwent season-ending thumb surgery.[8]
Personal life
His father, Fernando Tatís, played in the major leagues from 1997 to 2010.[9]
