Felipe G. Calderon Elementary School (FCES) is a central public school in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines. It was founded in 1904 under the name Tanza Elementary School. The school accommodates Nursery, Kindergarten, Preparatory and Elementary students.

History

At 1904, the school children of Tanza were being taught the primary course of education in a rented building in Barangay Biwas that belonged to the Pacumio family. In 1915, the national government appropriated a budget for the construction of schools. The town of Tanza was the recipient of three schools: in Biwas, Barrio Amaya, and Barrio Julugan.

The building is used for teaching children the English language from Grades I to IV. The rented building is used for the intermediate course from Grades V to VI.

In 1930, five rooms were added to the building. In 1933, the municipal government purchased an additional 0.5 hectare piece of land adjacent to the original site.

The Home Economics building was constructed in 1932, and the Industrial Arts Shop was constructed in 1940. In 1942, the Japanese military forces occupied the school buildings and made them their headquarters. Before they left in 1944, most of the property, including some of the buildings, were destroyed.

In April 1945, the school re-opened and rehabilitation began. The municipal government appropriated some funds for the repair of the buildings (and later the national government did).

In 1950, the school had an enrolment of 1,000 children from Grades I to VI. There were 25 teachers, one principal, and one supervising principal.

Through the initiative of the Order of the Knights of Rizal the name Tanza Elementary School was changed to Felipe G. Calderon Elementary School in honor of Atty. Felipe G. Calderón, the author of the Malolos Constitution who was born in this town. Through Resolution No. 20 of the Municipal Sangguniang Bayan of Tanza, Cavite requested the Ministry of Education and Culture to change the name. On a motion of Sangguniang Bayan member Angel Ricasata, it was resolved to approve Resolution No. 20 on January 10, 1980 in a special session of the provincial Sangguniang Bayan held at Provincial Capitol, Trece Martires City.

Today, the school has 66 buildings: one classroom, one computer room, and one Maliksi Type school building were added. There are 3,753 pupils enrolled; there are 85 teachers. In February 2011, FCES welcomed Joel O. Peregrino as the principal, succeeding Nenita N. Remorca who is now district supervisor of Maragondon.

On May 23, 2011, the school had a "Brigada Eskwela" for the starting of the school year 2011-2012. In December 2011, the First Grand Alumni Homecoming was held in the school.

In June 2012, Laura O. Garcia took over as principal of the school.
