Evgenij Miroshnichenko (born December 28, 1978), or "Miro", as he likes to be called,[1] is a Ukrainian chess Grandmaster.
In 2003 and 2008[2] he won the Ukrainian Chess Championship. In 2003 he tied for 1st–3rd with Yuri Yakovich and Alexander Potapov in the Fakel Jamala tournament in Noyabrsk.[3] At the 2008 European Club Cup, he scored 4.5/5 for board six gold as well as helping his team Kiev place third.[4] In 2009 he tied for 1st with Alexander Areshchenko, Humpy Koneru and Magesh Panchanathan in the Mumbai Mayor Cup.[5]
Miro does English language commentary for many high profile tournaments, bringing a dry wit and incisive analysis to the broadcasts. His insights are usually spot on, and he finds the things he learns while commentating valuable in his role as a chess coach/mentor/instructor[6]. Fellow Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk, sister of former Women's World Champion Mariya Muzychuk, has studied under him.
