East Calder is a small town located in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located about a mile east of Mid Calder and about a mile west of Wilkieston.
Local amenities
East Calder has an estate agent, two Scotmid stores and a Tesco Express, a post office/convenience store, a tattoo studio, a bookmaker, a cafe, hair stylists, a nursery, two chip shops, a pizzeria, two Chinese restaurants, a car wash, a library, a doctors' surgery, a dentist, two bowling greens, a doo club, a pharmacy, a garden centre and a sports centre. Camps industrial estate is located on the edge of the town.
Transport
The A71 bypasses the town to the south. East Calder is served by a number of bus service including First Scotland East's route 27/28, which connect the town to Livingston and Bathgate in one direction, and Edinburgh in the other. E&M Horsbugh's Route 40, which connects the town to Ratho, and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The nearest train station is located at Kirknewton.
Schools
East Calder has two primary schools, East Calder Primary School and St Paul's RC School. St Paul's is the local Catholic primary school. East Calder is in the catchment area for West Calder High School and St Margaret's Academy.
Famous residents
