The Directorate General for the Public Security (Generaldirektion für die öffentliche Sicherheit, "GDföS") of Austria is a department of the Ministry of the Interior serving as the professional leadership and overseeing body for most of the country's law enforcement agencies. It is led by the Director General for the Public Security, currently Michaela Kardeis.

The GDföS is headquartered in the Ministry of the Interior at the Minoritenplatz, Vienna.

Organization

The legal basis for the General Directorate for Public Security is paragraph 6 of the Sicherheitspolizeigesetz ("Federal Security Police Act"). Several law enforcement agencies that are not part of the Federal Police are subordinated to the General Directorate:
