Dipak Mandal
Dipak Mandal (also misspelled as 'Dipak Mandol' and 'Deepak Mandal') is a film editor based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He has edited more than 50 Indian films in several languages (including Bengali, Assamese, Hindi, and English). Many of the movies edited by him, including Satarupa Sanyal's Onyo Opalaa (2015), Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's Sohra Bridge (2015) and Elar Char Adhyay (2012) were selected for the Indian Panorama Film Festival in 2015 and 2012. Among other films edited by Mandal, Nayika Sangbad (2013), also directed by Bandopadhyay, enjoyed considerable commercial success.
He also edited the National Award-winning movie Houseful (2009) directed by Bappaditya Bandopadhay. He was a long time associate of the late director with whom he worked from 2002 to 2015.
He has also edited for directors such as Hiren Bora in Khobh (2014) and Somnath Sen in Atmogopon (2011).
Recently, he edited Guha Manab (The Cave Man) for Paromita Munshi and River of Darkness (2016) for Satarupa Sanyal both of which were selected for the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2016.
Life and career
Dipak Mandal was born near Raiganj, the district town of Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal. He studied at the department of film studies of Jadavpur University, graduating in 1998. Thereafter, he began his career as an assistant editor, working with film directors such as Goutam Ghose, before working on a regular basis with Satarupa Sanyal, Bappaditya Bandopadhyay and Hiren Bora.[1] He came to prominence at a national level around 2009 when Bandopadhyay's Houseful received acclaim at the 57th National Film Awards.
