Dennis Arthur Murphy (born September 4, 1926) is an American sports entrepreneur.[1]

Murphy co-founded (with Gary Davidson) the World Hockey Association and the American Basketball Association. He also founded Roller Hockey International and World Team Tennis. [2] The Global Hockey League, his 1990 venture as another league to compete with the NHL, never got off the ground.

Honours

From 1973 and 1979, the Dennis A. Murphy Trophy was presented to the best defenceman of the World Hockey Association.[3]

In 2010, Murphy was part of the initial group of individuals elected to the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame.[4]
