Donald James "Danny" Wilson (born 1955) is a Welsh former rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer of the 1970s and 1980s. A Wales national representative stand-off/five-eighth, he played his club rugby for Widnes,[2] Swinton,[3] Runcorn Highfield, and Springfield Borough.[1][4]
Career
Born in Wales to a Welsh mother and a Sierra Leonean father, Wilson played rugby union for Cardiff RFC as a fly-half before moving north to play professionally in rugby league.
Wilson once scored five drop goals in a match for Swinton.[5]
Wilson won five caps for Wales while at Swinton, in 1981–82 and 1984.[1]
Family
Wilson is the father of former Manchester United, and Wales footballer, and current Wales manager Ryan Giggs,[6][7] who was christened Ryan Joseph Wilson but as a teenager changed his surname to that of his mother.[6] Giggs is said to have inherited his balance and athleticism from his father.[6] [8]
