DINK (acronym)

"DINK" is an acronym that stands for "double income, no kids". It describes a childless or childfree couple where both partners receive an income. The term was coined in the 1980s at the height of yuppie culture. The Great Recession solidified this social trend, as more couples waited longer to have kids or chose not to have children at all.[1]

Variations

"DINKER" means "dual (or double) income & no kids, early retirement"--more commonly used in the United Kingdom--whereas in the United States DINKNOR - "dual income, no kids, no retirement" - is more common thanks to the absence of old-age social supports. Some marketers have proposed "yappie" (young affluent parent; modelled on yuppie) as a term to describe similar couples who do have children.[2]

"DINKY" means "double income, no kids yet". A British radio sitcom "Double Income, No Kids Yet" bore that name. [3]

"GINK" means "green inclinations, no kids", referring those who choose not to have children for environmental reasons.[4]
