DDR Festival Dance Dance Revolution (DDRフェスティバルダンスダンスレボリューション Dī Dī Ā Fesutibaru Dansu Dansu Reboryūshon), sometimes abbreviated as DDR Festival (DDRフェスティバル Dī Dī Ā Fesutibaru), is a Music video game released on November 18, 2004 by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan for the PlayStation 2. A sister release to the North American Dance Dance Revolution Extreme and Dancing Stage Fusion, DDR Festival Dance Dance Revolution shares the look and feel of those games while featuring a unique soundtrack composed of many songs from the North American Ultramix series (both original music and transplanted music) and from the Japanese Karaoke Revolution series. DDR Festival is the first version of Dance Dance Revolution in Japan to primarily use Japanese for in-game text and menus, all DDR games before it simply used American English.
Gameplay
The gameplay remains the same as previous games in the series. The game uses the same engine as the North American Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, which changes the song wheel design used in music selection and the scoring system, now requiring the player to score a full combo to achieve AA. It also eliminates the Groove Radar and dance play option, making it harder for players who use the dance pad to play, as the corner buttons cannot be disabled from performing the corresponding arrows. Jumps no longer register two combos in-game and the different life and score meter designs allow the background to be displayed full screen (previously, both meters blocked the top and bottom edges, shrinking the background in the process).
Other options still available in DDR Extreme are strangely missing, including the SOLO option (which highlights arrow timing so they can be easily distinguished), and the Challenge difficulty, with the exception of 桜, whose Challenge chart is still playable in the "Adrenaline" Oni course. While previous games necessitate the players to hold the confirmation button after selecting a song to access the option menu, now they simply have to choose the OPTION marquee that replaces the old Challenge difficulty marquee. The background dancers guiding players on how to step in Beginner difficulty is incorporated into the new Beginner Mode; although Beginner is still selectable in the normal mode, choosing it no longer displays the dancers. Additionally, Beginner difficulty is not available for songs from DDR Ultramix. To compensate, the majority of them now feature new, harder Heavy charts.
Party and Mission Modes introduced in DDR Extreme remain intact. However, Mission Mode only features 50 missions, as opposed to 100.
Music
The song list primarily consist of American licenses from Karaoke Revolution and new Konami Original introduced in DDR Extreme (USA) as well as new songs from DDR Ultramix (including downloadable songs). Orange songs represent Japanese licenses, brown represents licenses from DDR Extreme (USA), white represents default Konami Original, purple represents unlockable songs, and red represents "Boss" songs. Songs with padlock require you to unlock it first
