Managed by John Clapp, the Stars had a 21-59 record and finished 8th in the NL. The Cincinnati team was dismissed from the National League after it refused to sign a National League pledge banning alcohol from league ballpark and allowing non-league games to play matched on Sundays at their ballpark. The Stars begrudgingly did not contest the legality of their expulsion and faded into the sunset.
A new team came to be in 1881 and that club would become the Reds, a team that would endure into modern times.
