Cibola High School is a high school for the west side of Yuma, Arizona, United States. It was the third high school opened by the Yuma Union High School District upon its 1988 establishment. The name derives from the Seven Cities of Gold, also known as "Cibola."

Academics

Cibola High School's academics rank highly above any other public school in the city. With the integration of core classes, electives and extra curricular activities, Cibola students maintain a high manner of discipline and work effort. Over 75% of students who graduate Cibola High School will go onto some other form of secondary education. Since 2014 each graduating class has earned 8-10 million dollars in scholarships.

Activities and clubs

Cibola hosts various clubs and activities, including GATE (Gifted & Talented Education), Academic Decathlon, American Sign Language, the Cibola Spirit Line, the Raider Regiment, the Cibola Choir, the Cibola Student Council, Thespian Troupe 5060, Raider Nation, the Photo Club, multiple language clubs (including Spanish and French), the yearbook, and over 25 more clubs and activities throughout the year. In addition, many activities for student bonding and community service happen every year. These activities include homecoming, prep rallies, food fair/car show, the Cibola PINK football game, biannual blood drive, Winter Formal, Prom, and the dodgeball tournament.

Athletics

Football

The 2010–11 season was the most successful in school history. On October 1, 2010, Cibola had the biggest win in school history, over Chandler's Basha High School, a 9–2 overall record to end the season, and earned a spot to host a playoff game for the first time in school history.

Wrestling

The team has secured three state championships with the first in 1995. The team secured back to back state championship titles on February 22, 2014 and February 14, 2015. On February 9, 2018 Tommy Mommer (heavyweight) became the three time state champion.

Many wrestlers have gone on to wrestle in D1 schools, the USA National wrestling team (Adam Ludwin) and even compete in UFC.

Track

Cibola had the fastest mile runner, Bernie Montoya, in the United States. From 2011 to 2013 Bernie went on to win eight state titles. His sophomore year at the state championship his shoe came off. He continued to run and won the race despite his foot turning raw from running on the track. It was dubbed the "Miracle Mile," by reporters. Due to his injury in the "Miracle Mile," he was unable to compete in the last race later in the day. As a junior, Montoya ran a 4:03 minute mile at the Adidas Dream run over the Summer. Montoya still holds the records for his runs in Cross Country and Track.
