Child and Parent Resource Institute is a provincially operated regional resource centre located in London, Ontario, Canada. CPRI provides highly specialized (tertiary) diagnostic assessment, consultation, education, research, and short term treatment services for children/youth (0–18 years) with complex emotional and behavioural disorders, and mental health issues for families who require an integrated, clinical, highly specialized interdisciplinary approach. Services Provided by CPRI

Clinical Services CPRI accepts referrals for assessment, consultation, and treatment for children and youth (and families) with complex emotional and behavioural disorders. We serve children on a residential and community basis.
Attachment Consultation and Education Services (ACES) Consultation, assessment, treatment and education for children and youth (birth to 18 years) with a focus on disturbance of attachment, attachment disorders, or a history of traumatic and/or disruptive life events. The child or youth may also be experience difficulty in relationships, behaviours, and emotions requiring extensive management to the child/youth home/living environment.
Mood Disorders Clinic Consultation, assessment, treatment and education services for children and youth (6–18 years) who are referred by a physician and who are suspected of having early onset mood disorders.
Brake Shop Specialized assessment, treatment, consultation and community education for children and youth (6 to 18 years) with severe behavioural concerns or intermittent Explosive Disorder, with a diagnosed tic disorder.
Dual Diagnosis Assessment, consultation, and treatment on a community and residential services basis for children and youth (2–18 years) with a developmental disability and psychiatric or behavioural disorder.
IDEAS Clinic The IDEAS team accepts referrals for children and youth aged 2 to 18 who have been diagnosed, or are strongly suspected to have, a developmental disability and one or more of the following diagnosed or suspected disorders as a primary presenting problem: Anxiety Disorders (e.g. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Social or Specific Phobia) or Mood Disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder)
Home Visiting Program for Infants Early intervention program for infants (up to 5 years) and their families who are at risk for or have developmental or physical disabilities.
Homeshare Specialized placement program in which children and youth who have a developmental disability, medically fragile/technological dependence and/or dual diagnosis, are placed with families on a full-time and long-term basis in the city of London and surrounding counties.
Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic Assessment, treatment, consultation, education and support for children and youth up to the age of 18 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, their families, caregivers and the community.
Selective Mutism For children and youth (3–18 years) who have restricted speech in one or more settings for at least two months and have demonstrated capacity for speech and intellectual ability above IQ 55.
Sexual Behaviours Comprehensive assessment and consultation for children and youth (age 6-18) concerning sexual behaviours (can include trauma assessment and sexuality education).
Residential Services Interdisciplinary residential assessment and treatment based on the individualized needs and identified goals of children or youth with complex multiple needs. The average length of stay is 3 months for all residential units. However, they can stay for as little as 2 weeks. While receiving treatment, the clients attend school at either Madeline Hardy Public School or St. Thomas Aquanis Catholic Secondary School.

Age ranges for each unit are a general guideline:

Pratten 2 South – males/females ages 6–18

Unit 4 – males ages 13 – 18

Unit 5 – males/females ages 6 – 12

Unit 6 – males/females ages 6 – 13 with a developmental disability

Thameswood – males/females ages 13 – 18 with a developmental disability

Pratten – 10 bed short-term (average length of stay from a few days to two weeks) residential unit for males/females ages 0 – 18 with a variety of complex medical (including technologically dependent clients) and developmental needs. Services include palliative care and "step down" services from acute hospital admissions. This space is like a hospital ward with specialized medical equipment, access to oxygen, etc.

Urgent Response Intervention Short term, urgent admissions of clients in the CPRI catchment area.

CPRI Description: The Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) is directly operated by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. CPRI provides trauma-informed and highly specialized services for children and youth of Ontario (age 0–18 years) who experience complex and long-standing combinations of mental health difficulties and/or developmental challenges where: - These difficulties significantly impact functioning in multiple areas such as home, school and community and; - Appropriate community interventions have not produced the desired response.

CPRI PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

INPATIENT SERVICES

Inpatient Services Description: Short-term, highly specialized, consultation, assessment and treatment Inpatient Services that focus on the individualized clinical needs and identified goals of children or youth with complex, mental health and/or developmental needs from across the Province. The interdisciplinary teams collaborate with the child, youth, caregivers and community service providers in developing a comprehensive plan to manage continuing needs at the community level of service. Unit demographics and population may change based on referral patterns.

There are 59 directly operated beds at CPRI.

Pratten 2S Serves the female population, ages 6–18 with complex mental health, externalizing and internalizing behavioural needs requiring a comprehensive assessment. An interdisciplinary team provides consultation, assessment, and treatment planning and Inpatient Services for children and youth that are individualized and collaborative with the children and youth, their caregivers and community partners and are based on the clinical needs and identified goals. Average length of stay is 2–12 weeks.

Unit 4 Provides services to male youth ages 13 –18 with complex mental health, externalizing, and or internalizing behavioural needs requiring a comprehensive assessment. An interdisciplinary team provides consultation, assessment, treatment planning and Inpatient Services for children and youth that are individualized and collaborative with the children and youth, their caregivers and community partners and are based on the clinical needs and identified goals. Average length of stay is 2–12 weeks.

Unit 5 Provides services to a coed population ages 6–12 with complex mental health, externalizing and or internalizing behavioural needs requiring a comprehensive assessment. An interdisciplinary team provides consultation, assessment, treatment planning and Inpatient Services for children and youth that are individualized and collaborative with the children and youth, their caregivers and community partners and are based on the clinical needs and identified goals. Average length of stay is 2–12 weeks.

Unit 6 A co-ed unit for children and youth, ages 6–13. An interdisciplinary team provides consultation, assessment and treatment Inpatient Services for children and youth with complex mental health, externalizing, and/ or internalizing behaviours and developmental needs that impact their success at achieving their goals at home, school, or in the community. The treatment programming is individualized and is an ongoing collaborative process with the child, youth, caregivers, and community providers to create a comprehensive plan to manage continuing needs at the community level of service. Average length of stay is 2–12 weeks.

Thameswood

A co-ed unit for youth, ages 13–17. An interdisciplinary team provides consultation, assessment and treatment Inpatient Services for youth with complex mental health, externalizing, and/ or internalizing behaviours and developmental needs that impact their success at achieving their goals at home, school, or in the community.  The treatment programming is individualized and is an ongoing collaborative process with the child, youth, caregivers, and community providers to create a comprehensive plan to manage continuing needs at the community level of service. Average length of stay is 2–12 weeks.

Pratten 1 - 12 Short-Term A co-ed unit for up to 12 children and youth ages 0–18 years with complex developmental and medical (including technological dependence) needs. An interdisciplinary team focuses on determining and understanding factors contributing to challenges and supports collaborative planning with the child, youth, caregivers and community service providers for meeting the individualized and continuing medical and developmental goals. Pratten offers two types of Inpatient Services: Day Treatment or Inpatient Admissions (a typical admission is one week at a time per month). Most of the children and youth attend the Child Life Program in the unit. This program focuses on developmental and psychosocial needs of the child through an individualized program that includes therapeutic play and social activities.

Section 23 Classrooms are directly supported by the Ministry of Education to provide education to children and youth participating in an Inpatient Service and whose needs are not best met in regular or special education settings.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

1. Attachment Consultation and Education Service (ACES): service for children and youth with an attachment disturbance or disorder.

2. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD): service for children and youth with suspected autism; service for those clients with a confirmed diagnosis of autism with complex behavioural issues

3. Dual Diagnosis Disorders: service for children and youth with intellectual disabilities and severe psychiatric and/or behavioural issues.

4. Intellectual Disorders and Emotional Disorders: Adaptive Strategies (IDEAS): service for children and youth who are developmentally delayed and have an emotional disorder.

5. Brake Shop: service for children and youth with a diagnosed or suspected tic disorder and other disinhibition disorders.

6. Mood Disorders Clinic: service for children and youth who may have been diagnosed with early onset mood disorder.

7. Selective Mutism: service for children and youth who have restricted speech in one or more settings for at least two months.

8. Sexual Behaviours Team: service for children and youth who display inappropriate sexual behaviours.

9. General Clinical Services: service for children and youth with complex emotional or behavioural needs.

10. Home Visiting Program for Infants (HVPI): service for infants who have or are at risk of having a developmental delay.

11. Homeshare: specialized family placement program for children and youth who have multiple disabilities.
