Production
Development
On July 3th, 2018, it was officially announced that a modern-day version of Child's Play, a reboot, was in development at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, without the involvement of franchise creator Don Mancini, writer David Kirschner, nor Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray's voice actor Brad Dourif. Lars Klevberg will direct the film, with a script from Tyler Burton Smith (of Polaroid and Quantum Break fame, respectively). It producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg will serve as producers. The plot was reported to feature a group of kids, similar to Stranger Things, and a modern-day hi-tech version of the Good Guy Doll.[2][3]
During the film's production, Don Mancini, David Kirschner and the original cast and crew from the original franchise don't accept the reboot in the franchise, believing it could be a "danger" to their franchise.
Casting
On July 26, 2018, Liv Tyler was also revealed as having been considered for a role in the film.[4]
On September 18, 2018, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman joined the cast as Karen Barclay, Detective Mike Norris and Andy Barclay, respectively.[5][6]
Filming
Principal photography on the film began on September 20, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada.
Marketing
In September 2018, the first official image of Chucky was released, revealing the doll's first look.
