The coffinfish (Chaunax endeavouri) is a species of sea toad of the family Chaunacidae. It is found in salty temperate waters of southwestern Pacific, off east coast of Australia.[1] It can be also found in depths of 164–984.3 ft (50.0–300.0 m).[2] They have a globose and spiny body that grows to a maximum length of 22.0 cm (8.7 in) (SL male/unsexed)[3] and a black mouth lining and an illicium on the snout that can be lowered into a groove.
Distribution
Temperate waters of southwestern Pacific, off east coast of Australia.[4]
Biology
A benthic[5] species which inhabits muddy bottoms of the continental shelf and upper slope.[6]
