The Barca snakehead (Channa barca) is a rare species of snakehead. It is found near the banks of the Brahmaputra River in the state of Assam in India, and Bangladesh. In Assam, it is locally known as cheng garaka or garaka cheng. It has been assessed as Critically Endangered in Bangladesh by IUCN in 2014.[2]

Habitat

Barca snakehead has been reported to be found in Sylhet, Mymensingh Districts of Bangladesh, Goalpara, Assam and Nagaland of India and also Nepal.[2]

The species is carnivorous, benthopelagic, potamodromous, breeding seasonal.[3]
