Chakkiliyar
Chakkiliyar is a caste found in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Chakkiliyar are one of the predominantly found Schedule Castes in Tamil Nadu along with Paraiyar and Pallar in villages of Tamilnadu. Jobs in the Chakkiliyan caste primarily deal with leather-working include that for cobbling, horses and other ancient formats.
Tamil language is a major language spoken by people. In 2006, DMK period chakkiliyar where added to SCA from Scheduled caste. There is talk that chakkiliyan came from andhra during Nayakkar rule, but some researchers disagree, claiming that chakkiliyar people have lived in tamilnadu from before the arrival of the nayakkars. They also question, if chakkiliyans came from andhra, why is there no caste name chakkiliyar present over there. They comprise 6.6% population of scheduled caste in tamilnadu.
