Carthage (Latin: Carthago or Karthago) is a city near the present day capital of Tunisia, Tunis that was a powerful Phoenician and Punic city-state in antiquity. It later became the capital of Africa, a rich Roman province. For its former empire, see the article Ancient Carthage.
